After an enthralling flight offering you glimpses of the Himalayan Treasures, such as Mt. Everest, Mt. Kanchenjunga, Bhutan’s Mountain Goddess (Mt Jomolhari) and other virgin peaks, you will land at Paro airport, a thrilling landing in what is believed to be one of the most difficult airports to land on. At the airport our representative will welcome you and drive you to your hotel. Following lunch, your sojourn of Amazing Bhutan will begin with a visit to Ta Dzong, which was a watch tower in the past, Bhutan’s National Museum and “Castle of the Hanging Jewels” (Rimpong Dzong.)

Day 2
Taktsang Excursion

After an early breakfast, we will drive for about half an hour to Ramthangka, the base camp to Taktsang and then begin the hike along an ancient path marked by river powered prayer wheels to the holiest Buddhist Shrine in Bhutan and the ultimate point of pilgrimage. A blend of the spiritual and architectural wonder, the monastery is perched on a 1000m cliff overlooking the valley. Legend has it that the great Indian saint, Guru Padma Sambhava, flew from Tibet to Taktsang on the back of a tigress to tame five demons, who were opposing the spread of Buddhism in Bhutan in 746 A.D.
Disciples of Guru Rimpoche built the temple, which was later enlarged by the Zhabdrung in the 17th century. We will have our lunch near the monastery and then walk back. En-route, we will visit ruins of the “Castle of the Victorious Drukpa”, (Drugyal Dzong), which was built in 1646 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel, to commemorate victory over the invading Tibetan forces. On a clear day one can see Mt. Jumolhari from there. We will also visit Kyichu Lhakhang (Monastery), one of Bhutan’s oldest temples built in the 7th century by the Tibetan King, Songsten Goempo. It is believed that the temple was built on a site that resembled the left knee of a giant ogress.
