Bumthang, which is the center of central Bhutan is home to an extraordinary number of monasteries and gombas. One of the most important and venerated is the Jambay lhakhang where the Tibtean Buddhist king Songtsen Goenpo built in 659 AD inorder to pin down an ogress to earth forever.
